Sunday,
7th January saw the Benalmadena Bowls Club Three Kings Fun Day when participants
were asked to come dressed as Kings and Queens, the remark not too many Kings
but plenty of Queens was overheard, from whence my lips are sealed! Some
37 players turned up, about half in fancy dress and some it was rumoured, with
hangovers! Why couldn't we have on the 6th, which is the traditional day,
well the rinks were in use by the Costa del Sol Bowls Club, who also share
the facility (Right

The
usual spider started the proceedings with John Hicks being the winner with a
toucher, more on touchers later, as they they featured strongly on the
day. There were various prizes on offer throughout the day, not only for
winners but also some secret prizes, so secret I don't think they were ever
presented, but perhaps Richard meant the prizes where secret? (Left

During
the course of play, a prize was on offer for the first toucher after two ends,
the first lady toucher after 4 ends (no; gentlemen were gentlemen and they refrained
from trying to win the prize by other means!) and finally the first gentleman
toucher after six ends. Due to confusion raining, shouts of
"toucher" were heard on the first end, this was duly ignored by the
referees. (Right

The
first toucher after two ends, went to Jim Neilson, (now I know why he wanted to
play so quickly, to make sure he got in with a chance first!) The first
lady toucher after four ends went to Moira Durnell, again after many spurious
calls and the final toucher, the gentleman toucher after six ends to Ross Howat.
Well done to all those who got touched up today! (Left

King
Richard presented the prizes to the worthy winners, but with a surprise twist,
not to the usual best score winners who normally win all the prizes but one
prize to the team that lost by the most points and another prize to the team
that lost by the least points - nice one Richard. (Right

The
two winning teams were, a) David Lihou, Judy Hicks & Joan Giles, and team b)
Jim Neilson, Mercedes Neilson & Carol Harmond. Those that were there,
know who won what prize and that's the way it will remain, true to the spirit of
the day that was really about fun. (Left

All
the participants retired to the new club terrace (won't it be lovely when the
club house comes) and for the first time, we had a hot meal after play, kindly
cooked and provided by Clive & Ann Montaut with served with the help from
various other members. (Right

To
round off the day, a prize was given for the best costume and all agreed, it had
to be Ross Howat, who really looked the part with his beautiful plum velvet and gold,
trimmed with ermine, crown. (Left

Thanks go to all the organisers, sponsors and helpers who made
this a truly wonderful club day, may we have many more, can't wait for the new
club house
