Benalmádena vs Overseal Memorial B.C. Derbyshire
16th October 2006

TheTeams080.jpg (229680 bytes)The match for Monday the 16th October was to be 4 rinks of triples against Church Groesley but despite searching on the internet I could find no trace of such a place.  It turned out that the visitors went under the name of Overseal Memorial Bowling Club instead, a place name I did find on the internet. overseal_pub.jpg (7163 bytes) "Overseal is situated 3 miles south of Swadlincote, in South Derbyshire. The village was once part of the district of Seal, which included quite a few settlements, many of which form Netherseal and Overseal in modern times. The “Seal” suggests the area was once heavily forested and Nether means ‘lower’ and Over means ‘upper’  - history lesson over. (Right - Robin Hood public House - www.derbyshireuk.net)

So I ask, did Benalmadena end up playing a team from the nether regions instead?

IllHideMyBowlsFromTheOpposition095.jpg (213865 bytes)The visitors Captain, Marion Matthews had the right idea as she delegated everything to a spokesman, Colin Bootherway whereas the Benalmadena Captain for the day, (volunteered buy default - thanks Frank) was Carol Harmond who just had to muddle through the best she could as she couldn't find anyone stupid enough to take the task on!  (Left - The visitors Captain bowls - photo © 2006 Carol Harmond)

Presentation101.jpg (168158 bytes)A great time was had by all and the visitors said they had thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Benalmadena.  The result was 2 rinks each but the visitors had a well deserved points win of 68 to 58 as one of our teams (no names to save the blushes) didn't even manage to reach double figures, perhaps we should adopt the "L" plates idea from last week's visitors?  (Right - Presentation to Colin Bootherway of Overseal Memorial BC - photo © 2006 Carol Harmond)

Presentation102.jpg (161695 bytes)After the game, the players retired to the refreshment area where mementoes were exchanged between the two clubs.  (Left - The plaque presented to Benalmadena - photo © 2006 Carol Harmond)
